Design Manager - Permanent - Data Centre - Paris

Our client is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their expanding Data Centre project team. The ideal candidate will oversee the delivery of all information related to specific data centre projects. This role requires close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the implementation of information management and design standards, ensuring successful delivery at each stage.

Responsibilities

The Design Manager will oversee data centre design projects, collaborating with internal stakeholders, country teams, and external consultants. This role involves managing consultant contracts, ensuring alignment with project objectives, and delivering high-quality, cost-effective design solutions.

  • Tender, contracting and vendor management: Prepare and execute Architectural and Engineering Consultant Agreements, defining Scope of Work, Scope of Services, and Fees based on Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR).
  • Design & Project Management: Oversee the daily operations of the project design team (internal and external) to ensure the required level of service.
  • Design reiew and validation: Maintain alignment between the OPR and construction documents, ensuring design standards are followed or deviations are documented.
  • Change management: Ensure customer requirements are interpreted, verified, coordinated, and documented, maintaining a 100% satisfaction rate.
  • Collaboration and communication: Lead efforts to develop cost/time-benefit analyses and present solutions to meet project goals.
  • Continuous improvement: Develop innovative solutions to reduce costs while maintaining quality and reliability.
  • Compliance and risk management: Ensure adherence to design standards, documenting any deviations after obtaining consensus.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Design, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in data centres or specialized facilities, focusing on CSA and MEP systems development.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams and managing new construction, tenant improvements, and capital improvement projects.
  • Proven expertise in consultant negotiation and management.
  • Strong understanding of contractual and building regulation obligations.
  • Ability to interpret design and construction drawings/specifications, project schedules, budgets, and estimate summaries.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction projects, particularly data centres or equivalent industrial facilities, with an emphasis on MEP systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit). PMP or PgMP certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Building Code regulations in jurisdictions where our client operates (NL, DE, FR, SP, IT) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to reduce costs without compromising quality.
  • Familiarity with RIBA stages of work.
  • Excellent coordination and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively present and evaluate ideas in project meetings.
  • Thorough understanding of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical design concepts.
  • Ability to develop and take new design concepts through detailed design, peer review, executive review, construction, and operation.
